Ismail Chelabi

Senior Frontend Engineer for Scalable SaaS Platforms

I help product and engineering teams build frontends that scale—structuring codebases that teams can own, evolve, and ship from with confidence. My work spans architecture decisions, component design systems, and the integration challenges that surface when enterprise products grow.

What I do

Services

Flexible, intervention-based engagements with a clear scope and measurable outcomes. I work at the intersection of architecture decisions and delivery — providing senior technical judgment when it matters, from feasibility through to verification.

01

Solution Architecture & Design

For projects where you need help defining the technical approach before development begins. I translate requirements into components, data flows, and implementation phases your team can build from with confidence.

  • System architecture with major modules and data flows
  • Integration strategy and technical dependency map
  • Technology recommendations with rationale
  • Phased implementation plan the dev team can follow

02

Architecture Audit & Review

A structured review of your existing or proposed architecture — surfacing patterns that slow your team down and replacing them with ones that scale. Covers frontend, backend, APIs, database structure, security, and maintainability.

  • Codebase health report with prioritized risk areas
  • Module, state management, and routing strategy recommendations
  • Performance bottleneck analysis with actionable fixes
  • Technical debt assessment and remediation plan
  • Roadmap to refactor without stopping delivery

03

Design System & UI Library Setup

Building the component infrastructure that lets product teams move fast without design drift. Token-driven, well-documented, and built for the teams that will use it — not just for the team that built it.

  • Design token system aligned with your brand
  • Core component library with accessibility baked in from the start
  • Storybook documentation with usage guidelines and do/don'ts
  • Adoption playbook so product squads can onboard without friction

04

Development Verification & Review

An independent senior review at important milestones — verifying that implementation satisfies requirements, architecture is being respected, and the project is ready for its next phase. Ideal when you need a technical second opinion without a full-time lead.

  • Implementation quality and requirements verification
  • Scalability, maintainability, and edge-case review
  • APPROVED / APPROVED WITH CONDITIONS / REQUIRES CHANGES verdict
  • Prioritized list of issues to address before continuing

05

Technical Troubleshooting

When your team hits a wall — persistent production issues, architecture-related problems, performance bottlenecks, or complex integration failures — I investigate root causes and deliver a clear path to resolution.

  • Root-cause analysis of the technical issue
  • Recommended solution with implementation guidance
  • Technical remediation plan with priorities
  • Optional follow-up verification after fix is applied

06

Product Technical Analysis

When a client presents a product, feature, or technical request, I help you understand what it really requires before you commit. I can also join the technical meeting, ask the right questions, explain constraints, and give your team an independent technical perspective.

  • Technical analysis of the proposed product or feature
  • Clarifying questions and assumptions to validate with the client
  • Feasibility, complexity, dependency, and risk assessment
  • Technical meeting participation and clear recommendations

Case Studies

Case 01 Banking Frontend Architecture Design System

From UI Fragmentation to a Shared Frontend Platform

Three banking products shared many of the same interface patterns but had no common UI foundation. Similar components were being implemented independently, creating inconsistencies and making maintenance increasingly expensive.

The same UI problems were being solved repeatedly by different parts of the team — slowing development and making changes harder to maintain.

Constraints

  • No existing shared UI foundation
  • 3 products evolving independently
  • ~5 developers, 1 designer
  • Design system built from scratch

Solution

  • Nx monorepo workspace architecture
  • 30+ shared presentation components
  • PrimeNG for interaction mechanics
  • Storybook as collaboration layer

Outcome

  • Consistent UI across 3 products
  • Faster feature development
  • Clear debugging boundaries
  • Zero business logic in UI library

Case 02 Camunda BPMN.js TypeScript

Camunda Workflow Toolkit

Our backend already relied on Camunda, but workflow management lived outside the product. I designed and built a frontend toolkit that brought BPMN editing, workflow lifecycle management, versioning, and instance monitoring into the application.

If workflows are a core capability of our product, why should users need to leave the product to manage them?

Constraints

  • Complex workflow engine
  • BPMN.js default look needed customization
  • Monitoring thousands of instances
  • API contracts owned by backend team

Solution

  • bpmn-js components integration
  • 20+ custom UI components
  • Native lifecycle and versioning UI
  • Clear frontend/backend API boundary

Outcome

  • 10+ workflows managed directly
  • Thousands of instances monitored
  • No external Camunda admin tools needed
  • Native product design integration
